FAQ
Q: Are local mechanics cheaper than dealerships?
A: Generally, it is cheaper to repair your car at an auto repair shop than a dealership shop. For the period your car has a warranty, it is definitely cheaper to take it to a dealership as it will be repaired for free. But afterwards, it will be cheaper to shift to an auto repair shop as long as you find a good one.
Q: How do I know what I need to fix on my car?
A: Ask for a complete vehicle inspection and a copy of the printed maintenance schedule for all systems and services. Compare the shop’s maintenance schedule with what your manufacturer recommends. Reputable shops should be able to show you the inspection report, so you can check it against the repairs they say you need.
Q: What is the most valuable part of a car?
A: A car engine is expensive, with the most expensive part being the engine itself. But as with anything, different parts cost more than others.
Q: Is it better to pay for car repair or go through insurance?
A: If you have an accident and the cost of repairing your car or another person’s vehicle is cheaper if you claim on your insurance, it’s probably the best idea.
Q:At what point is a car not worth fixing?
A: You will have to either replace or repair your car if it breaks down. Buying another used car may cost more or about the same as the cost of repairs. It may make more financial sense to replace the car if it is on its way out or the repairs cost more than the value of a used car.
Q: Is it worth it to keep repairing a car?
A: If you’re driving a car that’s less than 12 years old and is within its first 150,000 miles, it likely still has some life left in it if you’ve kept up on its maintenance. Depending on the car’s value, repairing it might be worth the money to keep it going for a few more years.
Q: Why are mobile mechanics better?
A: They come to you (not the other way around) No need to call a tow truck if you have broken down – use a mobile mechanic. They carry out most servicing and repairs. They tend to be cheaper than garages.
Q: What is it called when a mechanic looks at a car before you buy it?
A: The buyer typically pays for the pre-purchase inspection. A basic PPI will cost $100 to $200. For that price, you can expect a good overall mechanical and safety inspection (including a test drive) of the vehicle.
Q: What are the three types of mechanic?
A: Mechanics may be divided into three branches: statics, which deals with forces acting on and in a body at rest; kinematics, which describes the possible motions of a body or system of bodies; and kinetics, which attempts to explain or predict the motion that will occur in a given situation.
Q: What is it called when a mechanic comes to your house?
A: Hiring a mobile mechanic is the most convenient way to service your car. The next time you’re looking for expert maintenance or repair, consider doing it on your terms, by having a mobile mechanic come to you.
